Myrna blends a brew of blues, rock, soul, and Latin beats in English and Spanish, as well as a fusion of both languages.  This woman doesn't sing, she belts.  Her lyrics and lungs are instruments of pure, raw emotion.  She's a Latino firecracker who writes blues and rock and sings them with soul.

Pachanga will host over 20 acts and DJs from Texas, California, NYC and Mexico. The festival will also showcase cuisine from Austin’s greatest Latin American and Mexican restaurants and an array of craft vendors.

School of Rock Launches Every Thursday
Giving young musicians an chance to shine

The School of Rock gives kids of all ages the chance to express their musical talent in front of a casual, yet energetic, restaurant crowd as well as broadening their knowledge of the ins-and-outs of performing live, stage production, and entertaining an audience.

There will be four acts chosen by a selected panel based on talent, personality, and motivation to perform each week.  Submissions are open to anyone in high school or younger.   The series will continue throughout the summer as the word spreads around town. CEREMONY:  A New Order TributeCeremony

24 Hour Service Station is assembling a tribute album honoring the music of New Order entitled CEREMONY: A New Order Tribute. The double CD and digital album is scheduled for release in the fall of 2009. Slated participants include Kate Havnevik, Jah Division, The Cloud Room, Kingsbury, The Penelopes, Allegra Gellar, The Beauvilles, Kites with Lights, Dub Gabriel, GD Luxxe, Detachments and many more!

Artists will be offering up a version of their favorite New Order track, as well as their take on the band's classic first single, "Ceremony" for the extra disc.

Proceeds from record sales will go to the Salford Foundation Trust's Tony Wilson Award, established in memory of Tony Wilson, the founding father of landmark independent record label Factory Records, who died of cancer in 2007. The trust will benefit children and young people who can demonstrate a special talent or ambition in the arts or creative skills.

SongDoor Songwriting Contest

The SongDoor 2009 International Songwriting Competition is now open for submissions. Awards totaling more than $40,000 (including a single-song publishing contract) and two new judges have also been announced. Complete information is available at SongDoor's new website.

All entrants receive a free DIY SongU.com songwriting course and free melody-writing software, valuable tools worth $70. The entry fee is $10.  Songs may be entered in six different categories: Christian, Country, Pop, Rock/Alt, Soft Rock and Instrumental.

Entries are accepted online or by mail through November 15, 2009.

The Rolling Stones Hoot/Tribute was created to raise funds and awareness for the SIMS Foundation.  The event welcomes Austin's best and brightest musicians to play selections by another top name in music, the Rolling Stones. Several surprise guests will perform along with confirmed participants Alejandro Escovedo, Ian Moore, David Grissom, Nakia, The Skunks, Aimee Bobruck, David Newbould, Gina Chavez, Meagan Tubb, Edison Chair, Matt McCormack, Craig Marshall and more.

The event will be family friendly and will split the proceeds from the door between the SIMS Foundation & Save Ausin Music.
